environmental pollution of cheap goods

my friend ani rivera has recently hung a show at his gallery at valley frame works.  the show, up until may 18th,  is of satellite photos-- publicly owned and printed on large sheets of canvas-- of earth and our surroundings.  it is a beautiful and thought provoking show.  go see it.

this particular photo really caught my attention.  the little red dot towards the top of the photo is beijing, china.  the white cloud below beijing?  smog from all the factories there.  factories producing the products that those of us in north america buy every day.  our clothing, our homegoods, our cheap plastic items.

next time you buy something that says 'made in china' think about that cloud.  the cost is a lot higher than we think.
